How to import film shot at 24 frames?

I'm shooting from a Canon XH A1, and when I set up a project I don't see any way to choose 24 frames/second which is what I am shooting in. So after I capture there is a long "conforming" process which seems to convert it to 29.77 frames/second. Is there some way to streamline this by letting Premiere capture at 24 frames/second? Or should I be shooting a different frame/second if i don't want that conversion?

Also, I know this is a basic question, but there isn't any way to capture film that is quicker than letting it run at its true speed? IE 60 minutes of video takes 60 minutes to capture.. seems like there could/should be a faster way.

There are project presets on the Adobe site for Canon 24f and 30f. You might have to search around a little but they are there. The presets are for Premiere pro 2.0, but they work with CS3.

No...60 minutes takes 60 minutes. I recommend you use HDVsplit to capture your footage, it's free and has scene detect.

if you change your editing mode to "desktop" you can choose any framerate and codec you want for an editing mode.

theres no real way to capture your video faster from tape based media, and you wouldnt want to anyway as it could lead to dropped or missed frames and data errors or dropouts when running the heads ata faster rater then they are designed to be run at. you get substantially faster ingest times by skipping the "capture" step when using digital media such as an HDD recorder, P2, or flash memory. then its just a data transfer at the max bottlenecked speed of the connection protocol.
