How to Import AVCHD from HMC150 to Final Cut Pro X ?

You can import all formats recorded by the HMC150 - either from archived cards on a hard drive, or directly from a card itself. If importing from an archive go to 'File' in the FCP X menu, then select 'Import From Camera'. After that, click on the "Open Archive..." button on the lower left corner. Use the newly opened dialog box to select the card or archived card data you wish to import. The clips should show up in the window for import selection.

Also, you can import directly from a card by opening the 'Import From Camera' window, then inserting your card into a card reader attached to your Mac - or the SD card slot if you have a newer iMac. The clips should then be automatically loaded for review and import.

You're welcome, cleric. It's nice to see postings that ask about the features and operation of FCP X, rather than rant about what's missing.

Mark. How would you import into an external hard drive. Where the private folder with all the files was uploaded from a PC into an external hard drive and you now want to brings those MTS files from the external hard drive into FCP for editing?

If I understand your question correctly, it's probably easier to show you with some screen captures:

1) select 'Import from Camera' to open the Camera Import window

2) choose the hard drive where the card contents has been transferred and select the specific card you want

3) the clips from the card should show up in the Camera Import window. Click on the clips you want or use the 'Import All...' button

4) choose an existing event or create a new event on your media drive. Select the transcoding and correction options you want and click the 'Import' button

5) the imported clip(s) should appear in the Event Library (with the card name if you have selected list view)

Hope this helps.

Is there any way to import MTS files with no other folder structure?

Is there any way to import MTS files with no other folder structure?

Before I bought FCPX, I used to copy only the MTS files from the cards and convert them.
Now, I have many libraries with MTS files but cannot find a way to import them to FCPX as I didn't archive the full structure of the card but just the files.
Any idea?

Thanks.
Eitan

I meant importing MTS files not from the camera but from an external hard into Mac's Final Cut Pro so as not to have issues when you go to transcode your final movie.

Oooohhh, sorry for the confusion. I'm not familiar with that procedure since I follow Barry Green's advice to maintain the full card structure when archiving to a hard drive. That said, does 'Import File' work?

...and @Mike Harvey, could you please stop by the Harmon Brewery in Tacoma and pick up a few ales for me? Thanks.
