Hello,

I own 2 ARRI 650W(fresnell) and I just use them on a light stand for now. But sometimes I want the light to be right above the actor. So I can mount some bars onto the ceiling but how do I hook my ARRI650W onto a metal bar?
Are there special clambs for this? Of something else?

Can you give me the name of this thing? So I search for it?

Thanks!

There are lots of ways to do it; sky hook, gaffer clamp, studio clamp, super clamp, pipe clamp - you get the idea. Look at lighting grip at your local/online supplier. Whichever way you choose make sure you attach a safety cable.

Cardellini is usually the way to go, but if whatever you're clamping onto is yours and a pipe, try a pipe clamp, much sturdier. If what you're clamping onto is much bigger than a cardellini and is a flat object like a beam, try a baby c clamp. Just always use a safety chain to make sure if the worst happens you'll be okay.

Goto FilmTools.com and look under the grip and electrical category. Should give you an idea of what you can use, then buy from them or ebay. If it is drop ceiling you can get some scissor clamps. I have some of them alone with mafers, cardellinis, pipe clamps etc.

There are also lighting boom poles designed to carry lights "out and over".

Counterbalanced boom and mounted on heavy stands they are convenient and easy to set and use.

Generally used with lighter lamp units.
