How to handle HDR-XR160 Footage?

I have about 10 hours of video at the highest quality that I just need to burn on some DVD's. I don't really have to do anything extensive editing, maybe just take out some unnecessary clips. What would be a good workflow for this? I started logging and capturing the Footage in FCP to Pro Ress but it wasn't even a 1/4 of the way through and it was already taking up 200 gigs! Any suggestions?

Get a different editing application. One that works with the footage natively, like Adobe Premiere. FCP doesn't, it wants to convert the footage to an FCP codec...which is 5 times larger than the originals.
