How to handle 25p footage in an 50i wrapper

Hi,

I´m about to purchase (as soon as it becomes available) the Sony NEX FS100 and an Atomos Ninja HDMI Recorder.

As I understand it, the FS100 HDMI outputs 25p as 50i and 24p as 60i. The footage would need an (inverse?) 2:2 pulldown for 25p or a 3:2 pulldown for 24p.

I would mainly use 25p.

How do I handle this 25p in 50i footage in vegas so the 2 fields become again a full progressive frame?

I've never used Vegas but there's nothing easier than editing 25p in a 50i wrapper, in my experience. In Premiere I've had no problems editing the footage on a 50i timeline and then just neglecting to deinterlace the footage when I export it, since that's unnecessary. If the footage were interlaced, I would see both fields in the output preview window before clicking the deinterlace checkbox so I'm confident I'm getting the full resolution during export.

I did find in Premiere that if you try to edit 25p wrapped in 50i on a 25p timeline then it thinks it has to render, which would probably cause problems. There is an option to 'Interpret Footage' as a different format in Premiere which may stop it from messing with the footage.

Hopefully someone with a Vegas background can confirm that this is just as easy in that NLE?

Yeah, the only problem I can imagine is a wrongly executed 2:2 pulldown, where the NLE doesn´t melt the related fields together but the lower field of one frame and the upper field of the next.
I just need to be absolutely sure Vegas can interpret this footage correctly before I spend 1000 € on the Ninja recorder.

Clips only. In this case Vegas will interpret them as progressive (they are actually progressive, there is no motion between the two fields).
