How to globally change keyframe interpolation method

Vegas Help says this is how to change the method of interpolation between keyframes:

The interpolation curve determines the rate of animation between two keyframe settings. To change the interpolation curve, right-click a selected keyframe and choose a command from the shortcut menu. The curve type is updated for all selected keyframes.

What I'd like to do is change the default interpolation method for all keyframe pairs from Standard to Smooth. But there does not seem to be a way to do this. I could not find a Settings value that controls keyframe interpolation (not even in the Internal tab) and the actual <name>.sf file does not contain the interpolation type in any human-readable form (although I'm sure it is in there someplace.)

Does anyone know if there is a way to globally change the keyframe interpolation method?

Keyframe Interpolation bug in Vegas MSP 9b

Thanks David, but I had already specified Smooth for both Audio & Video default envelope types, and Vegas still defaults to Linear. The only way I can get to Smooth is to first place all my keyframes, select them all, and then change them all from Linear to Smooth.

This looks like a definite bug to me; hopefully someone at Sony will read this and put it on their list to be fixed.

PS: I'm using Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9B; perhaps Vegas Pro does not have this same bug.

So, even after changing the settings in Preferences (should be Smooth at default), if you put down a keyframe, it's automatically Linear?

Yes, that is correct. I changed the "default" for both audio & video interpolation to Smooth, said OK, shut down & restarted Vegas, and checked again that the setting was in fact Smooth. It was. But every time I set up a keyframe it is Linear. So I have to set them all, then select them all and change them to Smooth.

Yes - "should" is the key word there. I'm going to report this as a bug and will add that it does work OK in Pro but not in Studio.

It is surprising to me that there is this kind of difference; I would have guessed the Studio version is just a slimmed down version of Pro. Apparently that is not the case.

Well, it turns out this is the way it's supposed to work! Here's the reply I got from my problem report:

----

Thank you for contacting Sony Creative Software. This is expected behavior. From the manual listing for Editing Prefernces:

Choose a fade type from the Video default drop-down list to set the default fade type that will be used when you add fade-to-color and composite level envelopes. This setting is not used for track motion or keyframe envelopes.

----

So it seems someone back there in Sony-land decided there should not be a default for keyframe interpolation, at least for the non-Pro versions of Vegas.

To quote Ralph Cramden: What a revolting development this is!

I can't seem to find the option for changing the keyframe interpolation options in Vegas 9 Pro. can someone post a screen shot for me?
