how to get insurance

Cheapest insurance is a ryder on your property insurance...Also cheap is through an organization like WEDJ.

If you are a professional and shoot more than the occasional wedding, you will probably need to get coverage from an outside company.

I have found reasonable commercial liability and equipment coverage with THE HARTFORD.

I'm insured through Wells Fargo Insurance Services, but that's full production insurance, not just equipment. It runs about $8,000 a year but I think that's a great deal for all that it covers.

I just got a $30,000 policy separate from my home owners insurance which covers transport and shoot site for all my gear including computer/editing for about $400/year w $250 deductible. What I didn't know and which might be of general interest is that equipment stored/kept/used _in my own home_ but "used for business" was not covered by my home owners insurance. Those making claims on such gear might want to avoid specifying if it's for their video business, unless they know they're covered.
