Hello i will be filming my first event next week and there will be a few speeches and a band playing, is there anyway to record just these things on a seperate channel or something on my dvx, do i need a location mixer or something? how do i connect everything up?
thanks alot.

When you get there talk to the event sound guy and get a feed from the main mixer. What I usally do is get a master mix mono channel and take it in on one channel and use an on camera mic or shot gun for the second channel. That way if the mixer for some reason kills all audio you have the other track. Talk to the sound guy and let him know your needs and to keep you in mind

Thanks alot for the quick reply, what if i am far away from the main mixer, how do i connecr it to my cam? is there a way to do it wirelessly or sumtin. What connection would the main mixer use, im gessing xlr but just making sure, thanks heaps.

You have to check the mixer. While they may have XLR plugs for output, those may already be in use. There may be 1/4" jacks that you can use, or RCA plugs marked "tape out".

How far are you talking? I've run xlr over 50 feet before no prob. Don't know the exact distance but you could probably always get an inline amp, or a small powered mixer as a gobetween if its rediculously far.

I have run it over 500 feet with no amp so you should not have a prob. there is ways to do wireless but I will always take a wired connectionn over it even thought I might have to run allot of cable.

Also why can't you change one of your camera posistions.
