How to get Business? Cleints?

I'm wonder if trolling trade shows would yield leads?

I'd scope for Booth Displays, Kiosks and presentations. I'd note which companies use video and multimedia...and which of their competitors don't have anything like that yet. Build your leads list accordingly.

I've checked out the trade show circuit, seems like a good idea...
I was asked to bid on a project, from a client i met at a trade show... (didnt get the gig though)
how about setting up your own booth at a trade show? have some great HD footage of yours on a plasma.. could make it look great, may find a good number of clients through that...

I totaly agree about C-LIST.
I did get one small job off Craigs List a few years back. A whole $150 bucks. But nothing since.

Seems there are a lot of other production companies fishing for info on pricing pretending to be a client. You send them your info and never hear from them again. You can tell because they ask questions like "What equipment do you use, what cameras? How much do you charge?"

Or the Bride who wants a wedding shot for $50 bucks.

I am trying to build a coprorate client base. I did get one pretty good size client last month with the Yellow pages. When I placed my ad with them they actualy contacted me to put in a bid on a video they wanted to do. I landed the client and took it away from a large player here in town. They said they would use me for all their video work in the future.
Not sure how much work they do.

I did have a another large client sign up for another 5 day shoot next year. But that isn't until June. It should be at least an $8,000 dollar job. But right now I'm BONE DRY with no work.

My Yellow Page ad doesn't come out until December and January, so I need to get some work FAST! Things are getting tight.

I am great with clients, great with production and post production, but when it comes to getting the clients, I tend to get stalled.

There are about 3 large players in my area and a few dozen "mom and pop" comanies. I don't shoot weddings or do photo montages any more.
I'm trying to build a large coprorate, instructional and commercial client base.

Any other ideas? I'm stuck! :zombie_smiley:

What i find on craigslist, and what has been now termed round these parts is "Craigslisting or Craigslisted" such as , this guy craigslisted me.

Its basically, "Hi, i offer video services"
"Great, do my shoot , how much?"
"600 bucks"
"Perfect! its on friday"
"ok"

Firday:
"hey, ready to go?" "hello......?" " anyone there?"
"............"

hey there, maybe you could try getting some work through local ad agencies or other design boutiques, not sure how big the market is there were you live but the agencies have work, might not be the best pay but they have the big names. I’ve tried yellow pages here, found it pretty in effective for me, but I think with things like that and direct marketing (mail outs/email etc), you have to be able to reach large areas of your market to be effective at it.

also craigslist is an absolute joke, mandy.com-little better, imo

BergVision,

All my work has come from word of mouth. Now, I'm venturing out into the world of Legal Videography with a new division of my production company. I think it will be lucrative indeed.

Though I am a way smaller company than yours, I can tell you that marketing is a key ingredient. People have been very impressed with my marketing skills (especially since I've done it all solo) and are throwing work my way because of it. I'd suggest maybe a new type of marketing (I just did a large mail out and have gotten a great response to it) or something of the like.

I agree that a large ad in the phone book is almost worthless. I've focused on just the legal aspect of my business and I'm marketing heavily in that area and it works great. Maybe just market to one segment and then once it's moving along focus on another segment of your business.

There's my two cents.

i was going to post a thread about doing a yellowpages add but I did a search!

this is a really good thread... are these people still around ? whats the end of the story? how did the yellow pages work out back in the year 2007
