i am shooting with an hvx200 and am curious how to frame for doing a 3.00:1 widescreen format in post in FCP? how will i know what is being cut out of the frame during a shoot?
Do the math and mask you LCD and any monitor to the proper aspect ratio. I like to use those clear LCD protector screens, you can see through them but there will be a line so you can keep your frame.
i haven't tried doing the math yet. i'm not in the right place to do it at the moment. i will be shooting in 720 though so it will be different. when i come up with my exact solution i will try and post it.
Create a framing chart with the desired aspect ratio then frame it in camera to fit width or height, then use an overlay with a sharpie to create the graticule.
i received my monitor and here is what i did to frame it. i hooked the monitor up to my mac and in FCP grabbed some sample footage, put the 'widescreen' filter on the footage at 3.00. this shows up on my monitor and then i can tape off exactly where to frame my shots.
Gohanto, the reason for 3.00 is purely a creative decision. i am shooting a short film and want to use that framing. usually, i do not really care for that frame but for this short i think it will fit.
