How to? FCP to Consumer DVD recorder

This question has been sort of asked here but never answered...

I have a consumer grade DVD recorder with a firewire port. I tried to plug my G5 into this hoping that I can hit play on FCP and burn DVDs realtime. Problem is FCP doesn't recognise thar something is pluged into the firewire port. The device doesn't show up in the A/V settings / video playback menu.

Any ideas on how I can make this work?

I could go G5 to Cam via firewire / Cam to DVDrecorder via S Video, but that would be a shame. Also the DVD recorder has a D1/D2 port.

Any bit of advise would help!
 
I've tried that before too and it doesn't work. I ended up exporting back to tape (i was using the DVX) and then going from the DVX into the DVD recorder. I got the best picture when using the LiteOn DVD recorder.

Bad news is that this DVD did not work on all DVD Players.

There's got to be a better way to do this.
