How to export HD from Vegas

A question for all HVX users cutting in Vegas.

We have just cut a short film shot on the HVX200 at 720i using Vegas 7d. We used the Raylight plug in to rendered the film and ready to output the final cut to an HD format for HDTV's

What is everybody viewing their HD movies on once they have them cut on PCs

What's the way forward?

Thanks in advance.

Mass-output of HD options are few and expensive. There are Blu-Ray burners available, but they run $700 and up -- and software capable of authoring them runs $400 and up.

Unfortunately, delivering for playback on HDTVs is in a tough spot right now. There just aren't that many options.

Best option right now is computer playback. There are quite a few render options for that. WMV-HD (with 5.1 surround) is very good.

Thank you David,

Would you suggest hiring an HD deck or working on a deal with a production house to export to HD tape for HD projection?

Our unofficial goal here is to produce HD Films for a small selection of distributors. We are in the process of making our kit transportable so we can set up in a small theatre with a 48inch HDTV and show the film on the move.

We are shooting our feature film this summer and by the time it is finally cut early next year, more options and cheaper ones will be available, fingers crossed.

Can I ask, what equiptment is required for PCs to view 720i movies on an HD TV or Projector. If the PC is connected to an HD deck or HDTV for example what needs acquired? Cables, cards etc. And what software of any should be think about investing in so as to allow us to show the film?

Thank again in advance.

Tape is expensive. Tape decks are expensive. VERY expensive.

I would think a way you might want to explore is to project from a PC, using WMV-HD. Not sure if it still is, but WMV-HD was the only digital format accepted at Sundance at one point.

Thanks for the insights guys. I think we will be looking into Blu-Ray as soon as they are in wider circulation. We have access to HD decks. In two years time it looks like we will have far more affordable options.

Right now were looking at distribution with Pathe and Momentum for our film so as soon as HD DVDs are circulating more then it's the way to go. What is the largest consumable size of Blue-ray disk out there right now?

I guess just as soon as we all have HDDVD players in our home they will invent a 5 terrabyte chip the size of an SD card thay can store 1000 movies on it all in HD!

Here's to Technology...and our wallets!

To preview my projects I have my xbox 360 linked to my pc and render the file out to WMV HD and the 360 plays them right off my workstation to my large plasma... Really impressed with the results...

As far as public viewing I would suggest a laptop and an HD projector via DVI-I... Logistically it just sounds better than A Blu Ray burner ($700+) + Disks ($29+) Or HD-DVD Burner...
