How to eliminate renders on FCP??

Ok this might seem like a stupid question, is there any product out there that I can buy and add to my Mac Pro that will eliminate me having to render clips in FCP everytime I add an effect??

thanks

That's just how video works. Although you shouldn't have to render everytime unless you mean in order to get a real time preview of the effect in question.

When you're editing in FCP, you're not actually changing the video/audio. You're just recording instructions. Rendering is the process of executing your edits and creating output. Can't be avoided.

What footage are you working with- in general assuming you have a fast enough machine you shouldn't have to render.

Aja and Blackmagic make PCI accelerator cards that can improve realtime display of effects, making rendering easier to put off. Depending on the model, they can do other nice things too, like import/export analog sources in HD, second (or third) monitor output, etc.

As others have said, you'll still have to render, but if you have a fast enough system (with or without acceleration), FCP can render in the background while you're seeing a realtime display, making it a much smaller part of the workflow by the time you're ready to output it.

Ted, neither company makes "accelerator cards." They make capture cards that can help increase the RT performance with SOME footage...not all. It takes the scaling of anamorphic footage off of the processors thus allowing them to concentrate on the footage. They will not accelerate rendering, nor add any real RT effects to FCP.

Ok, well by increasing RT performance, as they claim, I suppose it could be considered a form of acceleration. Still, point taken.

I got a Blackmagic HD Extreme mainly for use as a movie display card for Pro Tools. I believe it does assist as you described in displaying my DVCPROHD footage in FCP as well, no?

There's some really cool FREE Final Cut Studio tutorials in the Podcast section in the iTunes Store. Search for Macbreak Studio and subscribe to them all. I saw one where you can play your effects back without immediate rendering if you open it up in the Quickview window instead of trying to watch it on your timeline.

there are a series of fx/video filters that dont need rendering but most need rendering, difference is shown in bold.

I can play 4 prores streams with audio on my MBP, desktop enryns can do more....
