How to do this timelapsed or freeze effect??

The actor is standing still at normal speed, while all the people around him are moving past him at a fairly fast rate, and maybe a nice blurred effect when they move past him illustrating speed and being more pleasing would be good.

Then-- all of a sudden, the people around him slows down to super slow motion while the actor walks forward around the people.

I've never done any timelapse or this kind of stuff.

I was thinking to do this I would film the scene without the actor and all the people passing by. Then film the scene with the actor standing on the scene with a green screen on the back of him. And then merge the two footage. But then how do I get it to work when he starts walking and the fast-paced people around him slow down to almost a freeze.

Any tips? Thanks

For the first segment, if the actor is just standing still then you may be able to simply film him standing very still and then speed up the footage in post. Very simple movement, e.g. raising an arm, might be possible, the actor just does it very slowly and smoothly - this takes some practice. But if the actor needs to do anything complicated (e.g. talking/singing) then greenscreening will probably be required.

The second segment will almost certainly require some greenscreening, as both groups are moving independently. Your NLE should be able to slow down (or speed up0 playback of any clip by perhaps 4 times without looking jerky. There are specialised software packages to create smooth slow motion by interpolating individual frames, but serious super slow motion requires high-speed cameras.

And you need to think about individual shots - do you need this to all be one 'continuous' shot? That especially matters for the critical 'transition' shot where the speeds change.

And have a search through this forum - I'm sure similar questions have come up before, i think some similar shots have been used in several music videos.
