how to do this music video technique..

I dont know what this is called but they do it music videos all the time when the video almost , zooms up and the pixels smear with it..?!? its like a zoom but with a motion blur that looks like it spreads the pixels.

sorta like this video (its a spanish reggaeton video, so just mute it)
at 37 seconds in..

and like this at 9 seconds in .. (bad quality but you can see the effects)

and also how do you guys do flashes that are also on display in that same video? I was trying to use a levels trick where I just blew it out and keyframed but is there a better way?

If its a plugin that does either one of these, let me know the name of it..

appreciate it.

The flashes are probably the result of a "bloom" effect. You can find plugins and presets for those for free for just about any editing software. I think I got one for final cut pro on the apple site, and one for after effects is available on videocopilot.net.

But the zoom effect, I have no idea, I've been curious about it too, since they ocassionally use the same effect on Mythbusters for one of the intertitle sequences they use when they go to or comeback from commercial breaks.

Hi there.

The effect (I'm pretty sure) is called CC Radial Fast Blur. You can do it in After Effects.

It's under Effect / Blur & Sharpen / CC Radial Fast Blur.

I just did a quick test and it looks very similar. The image blurs outward as it zooms, or the reverse,
beginning as a blur and sharpening as it reduces in size to become the image.

My description is a little confusing I know, but it's difficult to describe. However, I think you'll find
with some tweaks you should achieve the effect your looking for.

Hope this helps!

Peter
