How to do spike TV promo

Hey guys,

I'm intermediate when it comes AE. I saw a spike tv promo about Ultimate Fighter and wanted to know how they did those 3d stroke? And when a guy is hit, sparks fly out? Here's a link...It's in the middle of the page.

Actually i think the person to ask is Kai.
I remember him saying he worked with spike tv on ultimate fighter promo's.
So there is a good chance he made that promo you saw.
 
They probably didn't use 3D sroke but you can achieve similiar results with it. There are some particle effects used at some of the impact shots, and a lot of flash frames and random red flares. It was probably done on an Inferno or some other high end system.

Yes Kai would be the one to ask. I think he's busy forcing people to rotoscope for him.

The person who made the promo he is referring to is Anders Schroder, aka DFORM1, a uber-talented designer and mograph artist.
 
Some of it looks like Particular, some like 3D Stroke and some look like simple fractal textures with either a Liquify or Twirl effect.

It really looks like they mixed it up, to get similar but differing effects. I suppose it's possible that it was done on a Flame, but I doubt it.
