How to do a clone...Green screen

I just got a green screen last week and did a test shoot last night. I figured out how to pull a key and removed the green with the chroma keyer filter. but what I want to do now is figure out how I can put 3 or 4 of me on the screen at the same time. I shot in such a way that it should work but unclear what needs to happen from within FCP. Do I layer all the clips and then crop them and adjust settings? Any suggestions would be cool.

thanks

I don't use FC for this sort of stuff, but in AE I would filter the key from the clips, then composite the results together, adjusting as required for the desired compostion...

The big problem with keying is the fringing effects, which you may just have to live with...

I am not proficient with AE so what about Motion? Can it be done with that? I know it can be done in FCP because some people show examples of it on you tube but they don't mention how they created it.

You can do it in FCP, and you already described it yourself. Have you tried what you already said you need to do? Just copy the videos into different layers, the alpha channel should be transparent, and move it as needed.

yea I figured it out..thanks. Here is my test....sorry if you don't like hip hop music....turn your speakers down! Here's me acting crazy on camera times 3. Now again this was only a test. I know my lighting could have been better as well as my keying work but this was my first time ever playing with the Chroma Key filter.

Please share your thoughts and suggestions on what I need to do to make it better or how to really tweak the green out. I tried softening the edges as much as I could but you can still see some green in places.

You can also just crop the top video to show you.

All you need to do it is shoot on a tripod, film a shot with you on the left, and on the right. And then your good.

You're too closed to the greenscreen, such that you're casting shadows on it; back away from the screen as far as you possibly can. Don't use the same lights that are lighting the screen to light yourself as well. I would use another worklight if you have one and bounce it off the ceiling, that should give a more evenly lit surface than that spotlight on the left. A backlight can also help separate yourself from the BG depending on what the intended effects is.

Yea I had a total of 3 lights. The third was a 250 watt key light that I had next to the camera. I probably should have moved it closer to me. I was standing 6' from the screen which I thought was a good distance but I can play with the distance again. I might need to hang my lights instead of using them on stands. Thanks for your input though.

I can't see with this font if you said 6 inches or feet. If it's inches that's not enough. The important thing to get is that the green reflects onto the subject. Some compositing programs have suppressors for that, but nothing beats a perfectly lit scene, hard as it is to end up with.

I think it's a great start!

To add to what others have already mentioned, you want to "choke" the matte a bit, that means to cut away a bit more around the edges to get rid of the green fringe around the actor. Play with the Edge Thin, Softening, etc. You want the edge to be a bit more defined (right not it's a bit too soft).

Overall FCP is very limited for chroma keying, I recommend trying Motion which gives you more options.
