How to D.A.N.C.E.

I was curious how they reached the effects in the Justice music video for their song D.A.N.C.E.

If you're unfamiliar here is a link:

I'm very curious as to how the graphics move with the shirt so well, I have a music video idea in mind that would be greatly improved if I could master whatever it is they did to do that for the video. Thanks everyone.

doesn't have to be green shirts, and any nle can do that, or if there is too much motion then any software that can track motion would be fine. for example after effects or apple motion

I don't know how to do this effect, nor am I an expert, but I imagine these are the steps you'll have to take in After Effects or similar:

1.) Create storyboard of live action shots & create your really cool vector video.

2.) Motion Tracking the shirts: Like other people have said, you'll probably have to shoot footage of the Tee Shirts with two points or the like so they can link the same motion to the graphics. Perhaps Green shirts, or perhaps shirts that will glow in blacklight to make it easier to cut out (?)

3.) Create masks for the T-shirts: by that, I mean you rotoscope or whatnot a matte for the Tee shirts out to designate where the graphics will show up and then composite the graphics over the original. The two spots should help you track where the Shirts in space.

Again, this is what I would try to experiment with and see if it works; the unfortunate thing is that the company that made this for Justice was ultimately paid to do this work; if they were to go around showing everyone how to do it, they wouldn't be able to charge through the nose.

Think of it like a puzzle, good luck, and again, some of the problems you'll have to address:

- Creating Motion Graphics (After Effects)
- Creating a way to accurately track an object on screen (x,y,z) and thinking of ways to handle stretching of the shirt (An issue of tracking, done in a variety of programs)
- Finding a way to Matte out the Tee shirts (Rotoscoping, keying)
- Combining the graphics and matted area without it looking flat (compositing, using your tracking data)
