How to create this Pride and Glory Logo

I think everyone should post their own methods for doing it. Different workflows often yield surprising and different(ly) new approaches. I'll work one up based on blending modes, levels, brightnes and contrast (which is the only time I have ever used it), and monochromatics from the "channel mixer" option under Image Adjustments.
