How to create smoke on location?

I need to create smoke in exterior (in the woods for atmosphere and visible light rays). What are the possibilities for low budget? I know there are smoke machines, but they need a power suply. Are there machines which run on batteries? Or is there some solution that doesnt need power supply?
I have small fog machine (from some DJ equipment shop) which is good for interiors, but I dont think it would be good for exteriors (and I dont know how to power it up).

How are you going to power your lights?
To power a fogger and fans in the field use your generator or portable battery/inverter system.

This doesnt need power supply? Looks good, but its to expensive for me. BTW, why the guy on videos is wearing helmet? Its so dangerous to operate this thing? :)

People get obsessed about helmets, goggles and safety wests in the last years - I wonder how we survived our childhood about 35 years ago without all that protection.
I even seen IT teams at RoboCup, wearing lab glasses(!) - Give me a break.

On the other hand, the insurance companies try to make you responsible to keep their risk low and their profits high.

Oh well.....

Remember the wind-up ones from Japan that used to shoot sparks? I was always trying to light paper (among other objects) ablaze with those.

It's $45.00 per day. Gas powered and fairly loud. It's a mini jet engine basically.

There are other shops that rent it too, but Roger George or Special Effects Unlimited are both really good places with knowledgeable technicians that can work with you to learn how to safely use it.

Cheers!

I'm only guessing but my guess would be you could use the normal non-toxic fogging oil in the mosquito fogger instead of the flying insect juice.

You can always burn some old tires
