How to create a static mask on a moving layer?

Hi, I just needed some help around something I can’t seem to get my head around.

I need to create a mask on a layer that’s moving, (has position keyframes) when I make a mask on the layer the mask moves with the layer.

Is their a way I can make a mask on the layer but keep the mask static?, their must be a way but I just can’t figure it out.

Create your mask as its own layer (maybe as a black/white image in photoshop even), then use that new mask layer as a track matte for your moving layer.
