hey guys its a great form to be part of and here i am posting my first thread.

guys i got ideas about creating reality series but i don't know where to start at and where is it going to become the finished product.i.e ready to be aired on-line.
guys i need to know every thing from making ,technical concepts ,basically productions role(pre ,post),directors aspect ,and especially the requisite paper work to be done.

guys please help me out...
thanks,
looking forward to get support from this wonderful site.

What you ask is too big a task my friend to be answer in one thread. What you need is a schooling in film making. I would suggest read through all the threads on this forum but my best bet would be to go to a school.

And if it is a particular thing you are asking about then it is not clear from your post as to what!

mate all m asking is how to jot down things on papers,in a way that can be presented in the best way.
it would be helpful if anybody can provide with a dummy doc. so as it becomes easy to understand the technicalities .
asking for both:1.reality shows,2:films

As someone who is editing a reality show right now, I have one piece of advice. Use 2 cameras AT ALL TIMES! And sync their timecodes. Your editor will thank you.

You don't need a script per se, but you do need conflict - it's what drives a typical reality show, other than the informative educational ones which in my mind are not really in the genre. So ask yourself - what is an interesting concept, where will the conflict come from, will it be entertaining? ANYTHING has potential as long as you choose and frame the idea the right way....Like you could just choose a group of people from some sort of subculture - gamers, pick up basketball players, local poker players, tailgaters, a band, cheerleaders, etc. Then follow the drama that is life(get permissions of course...helps to know someone in the particular group) with a couple of cameras. Shoot, edit (very important what you choose to show), upload....voila. Essentially reality shows are just like serial documentaries...IMO. If you treat it like that, it should be a lot easier to do than the semi-scripted style of the major shows. Make sure the people are one of the following - funny, OVER THE TOP, or train wrecks or good looking.

sir i totally appreciate your advice and would try and incorporate to most extend as possible.but i still have my problem as i want to know how everything is to be written on technical documents.
i would request you if u have any kind of paper work that you could share would be really helpful .(ruff and fair)further i really loved your ideas would like you to carry on the good work and enlighten me time to time.

I would just use a program like WORD or OFFICE to do general documents/scripts/synopsis on - Just make your own and make them look good...that's all you need really. Now if your talking legal documents, I have no idea in that area. The others though - just search in Google for examples of scripts, etc. and just copy those ideas. As long as you are able to communicate the information in a clear presentable fashion, that is the most important factor, and format is secondary. Also, I'd be glad to help in the future.

New book on creating reality shows and reality show business plans gets networks attention
New Orleans, LA May 2, 2011 – New Orleans producer and reality show creator Dr. Melissa Caudle has written another book. This one is on developing reality shows and the business plans to obtain funding. “It’s a one of kind book out there,” says Robbyn Stroud, a hopeful reality show creator. “I didn’t know where to start so I contacted Dr. Mel. She was brilliant.” Like Stroud, other hopeful reality show creators and producers are following suit and buying the book. “I bought the book so I can learn to write a reality show business plan,” says Sancha Haysbert-Smith, producer of the reality show Tomorrow’s Daughters starring Ronique Marshall from the television series Keisha Cole: The Way it is. “I’ve worked with Caudle before on a project and knew that this would be the best book ever. She knows the ins and outs of this business.” The book has 19 Chapters, more than three dozen worksheets and is a step-by-step guided approach that takes reality show creators on an individualized journey in creating their reality show and the business plan to obtain funding. “There is nothing else out there on the market. This is a must-have book for anyone considering developing a reality show,” says Haysbert-Smith.

The book is getting the attention of television executives because for the first time a book addresses reality show programming. “Writing business plans for reality shows are different from those of movies,” says Caudle. “When a reality show business plan is written like those for screenplays they don’t make sense. Reality shows are unscripted.” Caudle wrote the book after hopeful reality show creators like Stroud and Haysbert-Smith encouraged her to teach them how to do what she does. “Robbyn was sitting in my office with her idea for her reality show and didn’t know how to develop it or how to write the business plan,” says Caudle. “She encouraged me to put the steps into writing.” Caudle has a background in teaching and was a principal for more than a dozen years. She earned her PhD in statistical research and administration. She used her teaching skills when writing this book so others could learn. Caudle is the creator of five reality shows and has produced three feature films.

The book, The Reality of Reality TV: Reality Show Business Plans is available from Amazon.com and at www.therealityofrealitytv.com. This is the first book of a four-part book series dedicated to creating and producing reality shows by Caudle. The second book, The Reality of Reality TV Workbook, is the companion workbook. The next two books, 150 Ways to Fund a Reality Show and The Reality Show Handbook will be published respectively in May and June 2011. “I can’t write them fast enough,” says Caudle. “A lot of people have a reality show idea but simply don’t know how to pursue their dreams. I hope my books help people achieve their goals.”

For all the information you need please refer to my book THE REALITY OF REALITY TV: REALITY SHOW BUSINESS PLANS. The book is available from Amazon.com or my website http://www.therealityofrealitytv.com . Hope this helps. I also have two other books, 150 Ways to Fund a Reality Show and The Reality Show Handbook.

I have worked on the development of several reality shows and they all start with a treatment. It is like a business plan for a television show. I would also work on networking with as many producers as possible - They will make your life easier if they believe in the project.

Or possibly consider film school or beginning to do some work in the industry to see firsthand how things are done. Producing television can be a lot of fun, but it's not easy, otherwise everyone would do it.
