hi guys
any of you have any tips to have a perfect reel to show to agencies? i've asked a producer and she said don'T try to do too much in your reel. i want to know your thoughts about the process . what do you think need to create a wonderful demo. thanks

Watch your design....Yep thats right design....Most agencies do not have a strong background in film making/Video production but they do in graphic design, layout, color space, etc. Many times they will judge the harshest on the criteria they know best.

I have seen great "production Reels" that were brought down with to many "live Type" like over the top text effects, and bad on screen graphics. If you are not great at graphic design/layout, collaborate with a designer for on screen text/graphics or go simple non serif white text on black background.

Keep it simple, highlight what you do best.

Think of it as a piece of stand-alone entertainment. Make it for an audience, not for yourself.

When you are watching a reel that feels 'too long', it is as if the person made it for themselves and not for the viewer. A great reel leaves me wanting to see more...and meet the person who made it.

Do a search on DVXUser for 'reel'. You will see lots of reels that have been posted. Take notes on what you liked and didn't.

Remember, often times the person screening is just trying to 'eliminate options' and narrow it down to people they want to talk to further. Sometimes your goal is not to get the job, but just get in the right stack!

Not sure what kind of work you are building a reel for, but keep it...short,sweet, entertaining.
