How to convert 1080i 60f to 24f

I have recorded most of my footage in 1080i, 60 fps. I wanted to know how to change that to 24 fps, and if that will effect any of my slow motion shots that have already be changed into slow motion shots in 60 fps. For instance frame blended that is very noticable...we are using FCP 6.

Thanks

Harvey

I think if you create a sequence set as 1080i, 24p...and then you put your 60fps clips onto that timeline...FCP 6 should convert everything to the 24fps framerate.

As to how converting everything effects your slow-motion shots as well as your normal shots I cannot say. I would assume it would change.

Im wondering something similar....iI own a sony sr-12. I beleive it records at 1920x1080 50i....I was wondering if this would be an issue when attempting to match it with clips shot in 108024p from my ex-1. If not solved by setting the fcp sequence to 24p any other suggestions on how to convert it and make it work?

To the OP, it will look like crap trying to change interlaced footage to progressive, you will encounter all sorts of motion artifacts, Bad plan. If you need 24p, shoot 24p.

I am shooting a one hour long documentary film. I want this to be telecasted on various channels (Discovery 1920*1080 59.94i).I had also planned a feature film on the same subject and therefore shot some on 24p. The feature film project could not took off but the documentary can be completed.
The already shot footage is on --
HDW F750 1080i/59.94
HDC F950R 1080/24p
DVCPRO HD varricam 720/24p
DVCPRO HD HDX900 720/24p
HDV HVX202
75 % shoot remains for an hour long documentary. In future I would like to shoot on HDX900 DVCPRO HD (principle camera) and PMW EX3 (B Camera)
1.Does 24p acceptable to the channel and other broadcasters ?
2. What frame rate should be adopted for the remaining shoot?
3. What editing path I must follow to get the best resolution, please guide.
4. How can I convert the above footage in acceptable resolution or should I re-shoot?
Please advise

For the OP, if you shot at 60p then you will probably have problems converting to 24p. If you shot at 60i then you can use a program like DVFilm Maker to convert your footage to 24p. It will get you good results and have nice 24p motion.

If you simply put a 60p/60i file interpreted at 24p in a 24p timeline then you will get slow motion. If interpreted at 60p you will get skipped frames as you NLE tries to get rid of all the extra frames.

Gillatineny - You should convert your 50i to 24p before editing with your 24p footage to get the motion to match. You could delace to 25p and slow down by 4% to 24p using our NLE.

ramji - Broadcasters do accept 24p. You should continue to shoot at 24p/23.976 and edit at that as well. I would keep everything as DVCPRO HD and/or transcode to that if it starts as something else. It would probably be good to take the 1080 footage down to 720 because it will look better than taking 720 to 1080. You can do this with a program like DVFilm MXFX or After Effects or even your NLE. The best editing workflow is just to keep the codec the same and the framerate at 24p.

Hope this helps,
Andy

Thank you so much Andy.
I must not mix PMW EX3's XDCAM with HDX900's DVCPRO HD.Problem is that I have PMW EX3 available on very very chiep rent. The available HVX202 doesent have 24p ,it has 25p.I need a B camera. Please also comment which one is best choice- HVX202 or EX3
