How to compress video for mobile app development

Hi everyone,

I have a bit of an unconventional question regarding how, and how much I would be able to compress short video segments into small file sizes to load onto an iPhone application. I want to shoot 2-5sec videos of exercise movements that will then be used to demonstrate the particular exercise in the app. However, I don't want the overall size of the app to be too big so I'm looking for the best and most efficient way to shoot these small videos and then compress them as much as possible to make really small file sizes to include in the application. I'm fairly new to video post production, but I do have some experience. I've heard that there are some really good codecs (please correct me if I'm totally going in the wrong direction) that can make videos really small sizes.

My current video editor is Final Cut Studio, but if there is anything else I should take a look at please include that too. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Kind of off topic, the way the new Nikon 1 shoots and animates a picture is something similar to what I may want to do, but it's not video it just takes a sequence of pictures then animates it in super slow motion since it shoots a very high continuous burst rate in that function. But of course, that's a bit gimmicky and takes way to long to write the file so it's not really useable in real production work.

Thanks in advance!
