Anyone knows how to setup the settings in FCP 6, 7 or 10 so I can capture live video from the NEX FS100 to FCP???? I'm using a blackmagic decklink HD extreme 2 to capture the HDMI output from the camera and plug it to the HDMI input of the blackmagic.
First, plug your fs100 into the blackmagic card and turn it on.
Open FCP, and choose file>log and capture (or shortcut command 8). When log and capture opens its possible it may not recognise your camera. So if it does say "unable to initialize video deck" just click ok. When the log and capture pop window comes up you will see three tabs on the upper right: LOGGING / CLIP SETTINGS / CAPTURE SETTINGS. First click on capture settings. There are two drop downs. On device control choose blackmagic and the relevant setting (as HDMI over 1080 is 1080i most likely to be Blackmagic HDTV 1080i 59.94). Then on your capture input dropdown choose one of the blackmagic settings with the specific frame rate youre camera is set to. One of the apple prores (HQ) settings should be sufficient. Before you do this however you can use the Blackmagic disk speed test app to verify your drive is capable of recording to your desired setting.
I follow your instructions that you told me, but I'm still not able to capture anything...
This is what I did...
1. I turn on the camera and connected the cable from the HDMI output of the camera to the HDMI input of the blackmagic.
2. I setup the camera to record 1080i/60 and setup the video out to 1080i/480i (HDMI/COMPONENT)
3. In Log and capture I setup the Device control to Blackmagic HDTV 1080i 59.94 and on "Capture/input" I set it to Blackmagic HDTV 1080i 59.94 - Apple ProRes (HQ)
4. I setup the Scratch Disks to use my G-SPEED ES storage device, which according to the Blackmagic's speed test is capable of recording 1080i.
