Regarding capturing footage shot in 24p with an XL2 do I just capture regular 29.97 and it automatically strips pulldown, or do I capture in 29.97 Advance Pulldown Removal?

Which mode did you shoot in? The XL2 has 24P normal, and 24PA, just like the DVX. You can check in the menu which one it is set to (it'll say 2:3:3:2 somewhere in there if it's advanced pulldown removal).
If you shot 24PN, capture just as you would any other footage and work in a 60i timeline. If you shot advanced, you'll need to manually remove the pulldown by setting your "capture settings" to "pulldown removal".
