How to capture DVD

I'm having trouble ripping DVDs so I'm thinking of other ways to do this.

What if I hook the RCA cable from my DVD player into my DVX, then firewire from DVX to my computer. Hit play on the DVD player, and capture on my computer. Would that work?
Any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Andrew

MPEG Streamclip works great for me. I have a mac w/ the quicktime mpeg2 codec and it works very well - I just finished condensing about 20 DVD submissions on to 2 DVDs for a film festival and I had almost no quality loss from transcoding. The film festival guys were totally happy with it, too.

Oh good point Luis. MPEG Streamclip is free, though the MPEG 2 codec for quicktime is 9.95 from Apple. But this is only if you have a mac. MPEG streamclip for Windows is free though I'm not sure what they do about MPEG 2 codecs.

Cinematize is another great option.
Though I suppose slightly less great in that it's not free.
:)

What kind of trouble are you having exactly?
And what are you trying to rip?
