How To Capture Anamorphic For FCP?

I have a question: I shot about 50% of our film with the anamorphic adaptor and the other 50% with a wide angle lens with the intention of getting a 1:85 aspect. Do I still transfer all the data from the tapes as anamorphic or do I need to figure out which shots had the anamorphic lens and which ones didn't and capture them at different settings?

You will need to deal with them separately and as such you have to ID which ones are anamoprhic so FCP can stretch or conform as required.

Hi,

Thanks. I guess this will be a hit or miss proceedeur as we did not mark when we used which lens. I can remember most of it, but certainly not all. This will be interesting!

It shouldn't be that big of a deal(i might be wrong on this but...), once you have all your clips captured and in your browser, you have the ability to click or unclick the anamorphic checkmark on the browser. So if what I'm thinking is correct, you can deal with each image looking at them on the timeline after capture is complete.

In other words, you think that once a clip has been captured you can actually later change the capture settings while it's on the timeline, at least as far as anamorphic goes?

My other question is, at what point in the proccess does FCP "unsqueeze" the squeezed anamorphic image. When I dropped some test images in and cropped them, it seemed more info was being lost at the top and bottom than measured during the shoot as if the image had not been unsqueezed yet.

Is there a way to test what the unsqueezed and cropped image will look like?

Century Optics makes an adaptor that will let you view it on through the eyepiece. Costs almost $1000.00
