how to best record this situation?

I will soon be filming a commercial for local TV. Part of the commercial will be 'interviews/testimonials' ... This will be filmed in a small office. My current mic (my ONLY mic ok..) is an Oktava. What would be the optimal way to set it up to get good audio for an interview. I am thinking of putting it in front and to the top of the talent, just high enough to keep it out of the shot. Is this a good setup, will it produce decent results? what should I watch out for?
Any tips will be appreciated.
Thanks.

your sound is more depends on the acoustic of the ofice you shoot then wht mic do you use ,
if you have bad acoustic it would sound bad
usially the framing become quit tight so place some blanket on the table in front get rid from sound reflection
keep the computers dow , check the natural loudness of the street noise .
the mic should to be something 1 feet over head 20cm in front pointed between the mouth and the midle of the chest
hope this help

most likely the testimonials will be done on a stool or standing up. would getting subjects further from walls/reflective surfaces help in terms of echo/reflections/poor sound (seems like it would)

It might help some, though you should still be prepared with sound blankets. But, you will probably need to use a boom and boom op if your subjects are standing, as they will probably fidget a bit. If you can, put them on a stool, as this will cut the fidget-factor. Better would be a chair, again less fidget, and you can lock down the mic on a stand.

You also should find out how to turn off the AC/heat in the office, which will also cut down the extraneous noise.
