how to add a vignette to footage.

I'd like to know if its possible to add a more authentic looking vignette to footage in vegas 8. I tried doing it using the elliptical gradient tool but all that archives is an artificial looking vignette since all it does is fade the corners to black. I'd like to know if theres a way to apply an elliptical mask and use it to adjust levels (colorcorrector), saturation, hue, ect. only at the corners of the frame while leaving the center untouched....

duplicate the clip on the layer above, apply the cookie cutter eliptical and reverse the effect so you're cutting out the center and only revealing the outside edges - then apply your other effects.
