How to achieve this look

Yep. What intriques me is shooting in the desert. I have never even been to the desert, and it has to be a huge challenge to shot there.

There are about 3 'big' challenges to my mind... 1) Sun... bright most of the day, little shade. 2) heat, well, yeah... 3) dust...

In the OP video, they 'chose' a pretty good time of day, and happened also to have a bit of high clouds on some of the shots. Don't know if the shoot was at sunrise, or sunset... I'd probably plan for both, so one had 'double' the time to get what one was working for.
(Then again, getting a bunch of rockers up at 4-5 AM to be ready for perhaps an hour at sunrise... that may be too much...)

Even with no dust there is often wind to contend with, and so, one would have to really tie down big screens if one was using bounce or the like.

The other aspect... buy a large amount of bottled water... and in the winter heavy coats for the night...

the behind the scenes video talked about a dust storm albeit dramatics via the lead singer. Despite how dangeeous it was I'd still hate to have my gear rented on that production. Dust or sand = hell.

Yes they were shooting on a dry lakebed. So in addition to 'just' dust, it was probably alkali laden micro fine silt. Wonder if they just dropped off the equipment with out stopping.

OMG, too funny. I see some camera department intern hosing out the camera with a garden hose.... "Ok, you take it back".

To achieve this look you have to correct colours in CMYK not in RGB like most guys here,so you will get this nice cyan out of black/blue/green stuff. Its visible mostly in new movies but here i corrected it on "some oldie",original is the smaller one:

Ive never seen CMYK mentioned here on forums in any conversation about color correction which is kinda weird. Many many many films are color corrected in CMYK.
