How to Accomplish this Quick Edit Effect in AE

Here is a video of the effect I am referring to. It's pretty much the most dominate effect and I think the only effect the use in this video you can't miss it. They either do it subtly or whole screen cuts every second.

I totally forgot how to do this effect over the years. Any help is appreciated.

Clever editing, match cuts and maybe some light morphing/masking. Works because it was well thought out.

That's one helluva signature…

Thanks for the sig comment, actually an effect from my music video. Lets explore this concept of morphing/masking. Could you elaborate.

Basically you would match cut the two frames with some element that match in position, mask out each element and morph between them to disguise the cut. There are tons of morphing tutorials online and about a million different ways to go about it. The closer the two things are in semblance the easier it is to morph between them. In this case the video was shot well/planned out to where they knew where they were going to match and morph.

If you can find a QT of the video and download it you can go frame-by-frame and break it down further.

Just downloaded the QT from YouTube, it's just clever editing and crossfading with some post camera moves to match up the frames. If I had to guess they probably shot on RED at 4K/2K so they can zoom in and out freely without losing resolution. There are a few transitions where they clearly just push in the same footage, or so it seems. Either way, it's pretty simple, just have to a well planned shoot.
