how strong is the hvx handle

As I am putting my 35mm adapter rig together I started wondering how strong the hvx handle is. I mean, can I carry a hvx outfitted with zacuto rods, sgpro, ff, matte box etc. on its handle or will it break sooner or later?

I would of thought if you carry a camera by it's handle (and not the rods support) then it would be the same if you were to carry the camera by it's handle without the rods support attached and still fully geared.

The rods support only supports the extra weight of a rig if you hold it by the rods or attach it to a tripod. Doesn't it?

A suggestion would be to get a grip that connects to the rails and goes over the top. Something like this but obviously not plastic and one that has rails mount. Can't find anything just yet, but will look as I now want to have the same option. Good inspiration :)

I cracked the handle on my dvx with a too heavy accessory rig. I contacted my authorized pany repair center and they said it was a fairly common repair.

maybe a Nogi arm as a handel?

The HVX handle was made from metal because of that.
It can take a lot of abuse.

Equipped with the whole shabang (rods, adapter, matebox, FF, Monitor, Batteries andwhatnot I lug everything including the trepod and a heavy metal Miller head around at the handle if I have to change position.

No problems so far.

I've read a few people saying the handles do break and not even under a great deal of stress.

Someone posted on here that it's not the handle itself but the small short screws that attach the handle to the camera body that are the weak spot.

No, its so accesories mounted to the top of the camera dont damage the handle. Also so you can hold it upside down in the case or something.

(from the zacuto site)
However, the HVX Heavy Load Support does not protect against the less dangerous upward pressures.

You need a cage type thing that is attached to the rails at the bottom and then extends over the top of the camera...

something that looks like this:
