My last thread may have confused folks by the way I worded the title.
Anyway, I need to know if anyone can help me determine the best method for compensating those who have contributed video to my film. Percentage or flat fee?
I would say it largely depends on your own relationship with them and if the video they contributed was contracted specifically for this project or if you simply are compiling and editing from different sources you picked up along the way. If it is the former then I would pay them the fee that you (should) have agreed on before they did the work. If its the latter then I would suggest talking to them individually and finding a number that works for both of you. I would say that you should first figure out the value of what you're making based on what you could potentially sell it for. From there figure out what your total cost would be if you were getting paid to do it and go from there breaking down what each of their contributions is worth. Hope this helps some.
flat fee if you have the money!! the name of the game is ownership...try not to leverage percentage unless you absolutely can't motivate them without it.
