How much would you charge?

I'm not looking for anyone to tell me how much i should charge, but i would like to know what an average production house would charge for a job like this. I'm doing some videos for a retirement company in town. They would like video tours of 3 facilities. Videos will be rendered for both internet use and put onto a final dvd for the clients. They would like footage from all over the facilities and also have overlaying music accompanied by dialogue speaking about the facilities. Each video will be approx 5-10min in length. What would an average house charge for something like this? Best guesses are fine.

Depends on how good they want it to look.

If it's a cheapo job with some guy walking through the facility hand-holding a handycam, that's one thing.

If they want it slick with steadicam and dolly moves from a professional camera, properly lit and dressed up so that the place shines, that's something else entirely.

And will the facilities be using actual retirees? Or will you put in your own actors? Actors can be expensive, using real people may be cheaper but it may also feel "cheap".

So -- doing it on the cheap, you're looking at a day to do a handheld tour, and someone has to write the voiceover script, and do the voiceover, and then you have three 5-minute pieces to edit, and what about graphics and titles and all that? Seems to me you can't charge less than $5,000 for this, probably more like $2500-$3500 PER VIDEO, or $7500 to $10,000 for the whole job.

To do it RIGHT, well, that'll cost more. I could see this being a $20,000-$30,000 job using a professional steadicam operator, properly lighting each location, having some professional actors in place, etc.

Hi-can you ask your client what their budget is for the work? (they usualy already have a number in mind) Saves you time guessing, and will allow you to figure out the best method to produce their DVD. Could possibly skip video all together and use motion stills if budget is 5k, or under.

Well i know what i'm getting paid and what their budget is for this. But this is my first time doing any kind of a video like this. I've done a short documentary, a music video, a few short films. But this is my first "bigger" paid job. So anyways i was just wondering what an average full fledged production company would charge for a job like this. Thanks for the replies!

They are looking to spend about $3,000.

LOL!
3 videos, about 5-10min, with voice-overs? So saying 1K for each?
Too much work for such budget.
Go with the cam there shoot and edit with cam, then on montage trim some unwanted stuff and do the voice over and they should be fine.
