How much to expect for a feature option

How much would one expect to get for a option on a medium budget feature script (action/thriller with some effects) - over 90 mins.

Might be a silly question (I know) but have no idea of what to request/expect for an average option on a feature (have an idea when comes to short scripts).

One of those times of : ask for to little and sound like an amateur - too much and you kiss it goodbye...

Thanks.

Most will give you nothing upfront so you have to detemine what you must have. There are several ways of looking at this. If they offer you nothing...who are they...what are their credits and what is their potential for putting a deal together? If they are unknowns then you might want to give them a take-it-or-leave-it price. If they are serious and worthy then take the chance on a 3-6 month contract for nothign upfront.

You must determine the sales price in the option contract...how long the option contract is good for and the possible renewal clause in the option contract.

connections as yet unknown. They are planning to produce and are looking for 2st unit director and to alter some scenes etc.

Just make sure you have your terms in the option contract. Mainly your sales price and how long they get the rights to your material in order to get the project off the ground. Have you worked out those details yet?

not yet. was waiting to see if and when they hit me with a contract/option - as often people offer/talk but don't follow through.

need to find out their finance plans (if any) and it would be a medium(ish) budget - as action and effect scenes.
