How much to charge?

Yeah, and I am honestly at that point in my career (as it were) that I either want to be forming a company of like-minded creative indie folks, or I want to get in somewhere with an established group.

Right now I'm taking the former steps, but I'm completely open to the latter. If I'm able to bring something to their company by virtue of my talents and in return they're able to assist me in some ways in my projects (or even if the two become the same thing), that's the kind of environment I'd like to eventually be in. The people who are doing this for the money, if that's the primary focus, that's not really the group where I belong. I'm looking long term at slowly building brands and connections, etc. Those looking for cash in hand for XYZ thing is reserved more for commercial work IMO. I've no interest in any commercial work. :)

Heck, just today I emailed some local Chicago indie folks offering them free animation in hopes that I might be invited to help out with their indie production company. I have probably an odd motto in my creative life, it says basically that my art doesn't need to support me, I can take care of myself, my art need only pay for itself for it to be a viable investment. I'm willing to put some cash into something for the first year, but after that it's on its own. Maybe someday I'll be wanting to make phat dollar from my creative works, but that's pretty low on my list right now. I just want to make quality stuff with cool people.

im also in the range of 500/day with basic equipment, camera, sticks, on cam light and shotgun. and then anything on top of that is extra. half day would be in the starting range of 350

I just threw that number out to get the ball rolling for Brian. While I like to be in that ballpark, everything can fluctuate depending on what the market will bear. And how much or how little gear I'm bringing to the gig. Also, I'm a bit off-base (I just skimmed through the first posts) I don't do narrative work, just mostly corporate and commercial jobs. I hate when they want an immediate number. I usually like to crunch the numbers in my head before I agree to anything.

But you had a nice little post/rant there.

PS-100 bucks is just way too low for any day's work in this field.
