How much to charge?

I have a client who is asking me to rip old royalty-free movies from DVD to a DVCAM tape, then capture and edit, then export back to another DVCAM tape for shipping to a TV station. This whole process will probably take around 4-6 hours each meaning I could do two movies a day theoretically. However, only an hour or two will be spent editing plugging in commercial space and titles, etc. I told him I'd charge him per movie but I don't want to reveal how much said till I get some feedback from everyone here.

Um that sounds highly illegal. Even though the movies are royalty-free taking a distributor's encoded version of it and ripping it off a DVD for broadcast could wind you up in court- especially as the one doing the deed.

That said you probably don't care so I'd charge $100/movie. :bath: Or however much you think you can get out of him. This is not exactly a glamour gig so make some $$$.

i'd try to think of what you think your time is worth. if you're spending 6 hours per video, and only charging $100, you are basically saying your time is worth $16 an hour.

if that sounds fair to you, cool.. altho i think for the 2 hours you spend editing, it should be worth more like $50 an hour or something. maybe charge $200 per video?

i dunno, just my two cents... i recently told a client i'd charge $100 per music video i made out of a live performance i filmed. well i've probably spent like 20 hours on the first video already so let's just say i've learned my lesson ha ha... i'm also a noob tho. ;)
