I am interning at an advertising agency that doesnt do video but is slowly adding it to the company. The first thing they asked me to do was figure out what they should charge a company they just did some video for. They have a small HD camera and the footage looks/sounds pretty good even though they didnt use lights or an external mic. They filmed 6 interviews that have about 5-8 minutes of footage for each interview. They have about 5 minutes of b-roll of the offices and the people working. For the editing i will be cutting 6 different videos that are about 2-3 minutes each (interview with some b-roll mixed in). I will probably add a simple vignette and title for each interview and compress each video into something they can upload to youtube.
So how much do you think they should charge? Would it be an hourly fee? Im assuming they filmed from anywhere from 2-3 hours and i will probably spend 3-4 hours editing. (not including capturing and exporting).
That brings me to another question, I am starting to do some freelance and if i charge an hourly rate, what do you do for capturing and exporting. The footage is on a card so i only spend 5 minutes of work then have to wait 1-2 hours for it to log and transfer. Exporting multiple videos like this is like 3 minutes of work, then waiting 20 minutes and repeating the process. Since you are working for a short time, then waiting, how would you charge for that?
thanks for the help everyone!
