Answer: As long as it takes to get the scene lit properly. I just finished a short which was shot on a Saturday Night for 3 nights in a loft. The DP came Friday afternoon, started setting up, and by 11pm had it lit they way he and the director envisioned. On Sunday there were different angles and the lights had to be rearranged again, so we had some down time. Make sure you have a good production monitor and that it is properly calibrated to judge how the scene is lit.
