hi guys,

i should've done it right first, but i went for the mixpre and right away refused it, i told the company i will pay the extra for restocking and want the 302.

how much should i be paying in canadian dollars anyone?

Killfilm,

I just ordered my 302 from Trew.com for $1,195.00 US... You can do the conversion to CAN$ or just call Trew in CAN. Good luck.

Jon

I got mine for $1350 from Location Sound in Vancouver. They have been bought by Trew, so now there is less competition in the marketplace.

I may be selling my 6 month old 302 at the end of my current gig... that's why I wanted to clarify ;-)

Before you ask why... I'm thinking that I may shift my audio focus away from eng and towards features. On the current feature I've used my eng kit quite a bit... they are trying to shoot up to 7 pages a day... which is crazy tight... and I'm often grabbing my bag off the cart... but I don't think this is normal (not in my previous experience anyway)... and working off a cart is a lot more fun... hence my possible liquidation of eng gear after this gig.

I'm going to try for $1100 for my mint, 6-month old 302... which is why I wanted to clarify that you can't get them for less then $1295 new. Sorry for the selfish reason to enlighten any forum searchers. :)

To answer the opening question... I've never seen a 302 in good condition go for less then $900 used... and in mint condition the best price I've seen is an even $grand... and that was when they were $1195. If you're buying new then look to a DVXuser sponsor first, but there are no "deals" on Sound Devices gear... the price is the same for everyone.

So Matt,

What are you eyeballing now? No bag mixer? Were getting the complete run down...yes?

I just got an eng gig percolating... so I may have to hold onto the eng kit a while longer, but I will say that my opinions on gear are shifting towards what some would call audio snobbery.

Oleg you've been right about a lot of things... including the G2 versus Lectro issue. While I still think the G2 is acceptable for a low budget/low pay project... or for zero budget indi-guys... I'll be on all Lectro after this current gig ends. My pro bag is all Lectro and I'm really beginning to understand why.

Bwest... I'll post about my eventual evolution towards features, but the long and short of it is that I'm becoming a big fan of multi-track and iso-recording. It would be nice to have ALL actors on their own channels and keep each one clean the whole way in... while few low budget projects would want to edit that... I think it's the future either way. There's a reason that Hollywood likes the Cantar system or Deva multi-rigs. It 'aint because they just look cool... it's because no one actor can screw anybody's audio but his or her own. On a big project this could save a lot of time and end up with a better result.

Which is why I'm considering making the move... but if I can get enough eng work lined up I'll wait on the eng liquidation. Again... I gotta' say that Oleg always talks about buying gear based on whether or not the gear will pay for itself... and that is dead-on... it's the only way you can survive in this business for long. My 302 is obviously WAY paid for after even just a short time... but eventually I'm thinking mics > firewire board > macbook > boom recorder... at least for features.
