I heard that this camera (well, video cameras in general) have a hard time getting the reds right. But how much red is "too much" red to the point where the camera has noticeable difficulty with it?

I don't really know how to answer your question, NDN.
It would really depend on the specific shot and amount of light given to it...
Basically, check it out on a monitor, and if it looks good, then it'll be fine, and if it doesn't look good, then it's probably too red. :S

Mike's answers are always spot-on, and this time is no exception. The problem with red is an NTSC problem, and you'll only know if you monitor it on an NTSC monitor.
That's the by-far biggest advantage a video shooter has over a film shooter: you can know EXACTLY what your footage looks like, while you're shooting it. Get a good field monitor and use it, and you'll know whether what you're getting is usable or not.

I like the way my DVX renders the reds ; I think they're deeper than on any other SD camera. But maybe it's because I'm a PAL user. I didn't know about this difference between us...

Yes, it's because you're a PAL user. PAL TV's are a lot more accurate in color, so reds don't bleed quite so badly on PAL TV's (or so I've been told). In NTSC territory it's very difficult to get good sharp red color reproduction.
