how much physical space for green screen

I need to film a commercial with greenscreen. Talent will be using teleprompter and I only need to show the top half of her body. It's a cosmetic product so the lighting has to be really nice. Would a 20' x 12' space be enough?

I'm assuming 8' between talent and greenscreen.

Hi,

Eight could be enough, a lot depends upon what the story entails. If the talent is static, sure.

As you likely already know, lighting the background evenly is terribly important, keeping spill from the subject is equally important, and making sure that the subject is well lighted is yet another consideration.

Spread out the instruments to fall on the screen, and if you have a light meter, try to get a reading every few inches to see if the reflectance is pretty consistent.

Keying, for me anyway, falls into two very broad categories, (1) a realistic "you are there" effect, or (2) a device to help tell a story or get information to the viewer. The former requires noodling where the natural light should be and mimicking it to the "t", the latter is making things look clean. Both are fun to do.

Good luck.
