How much is it to hire an FCP editor for a feature length web series?

The project I wrote originally as a short grew into a feature when I found great actors and just developed their one-liners into fully blown characters. So now instead of a calling card short to help draw financing to my original Sci-Fi feature - I now have a feature length web series to shoot and while I don't resent the project, I don't want to edit it. I'm not good enough and not quick enough and frankly hate editing. So I'm looking for someone good. How much do I get someone good for? To edit and color correct and sound edit? In other words, what's the going rate for a post house editor and a non-post house editor who's just as good? I'm not looking for a slave but I'm obviously not bleeding green either.

You live in LA right?

Step 1: Open a window
Step 2: Throw a rock as far as you can
Step 3: Offer the video editor you've hit with rock a job.

Done.

Rates vary. Sounds like you won't be able to afford a whole post team. I'd put up adds on media match, mandy and CL... see who you get. Do interviews, watch reels, etc. The big issue is that not many people are good at editing, sound editing, AND color correction. You'll find a couple of decent jack of all trades, but don't assume that Walter Murch knows how to do a color timing session or how to mix 8 iso tracks from a field recorder.

Don't offer until you hear how long people will think it will take to edit and finish. Then, if you have a flat bottom line number, you can negotiate.

The average rate in this town for talented editors is $500 a day. Prices vary with talent. Less, will of course get you less talent.
