How much is a DVX100A worth?

I have the chance of buying a DVX100A that has 50 hours on it. It will come with a 3 filter set, hard case, battery, and the AC adapter.

The cam has been babied. It was used at a church so it was never taken off the tripod for the most part. I was the main operator so I know how it was treated.

He is saying somewhere around $3000. Is that too much or a good deal? I havent been in the game of all this stuff too long so I dont know the value of this equipment when its used.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

3000 is too much for a dvx100a.

Since it doesn't come with Magic Bullet, Warranty, Book/Dvd, Manual, I'd say no more than 2200, but maybe my pricing is low.

I would think $3000 is a little steep since, after rebate, a new DVX100B isn't much more. But in excellent condition and low hours, with a few extras, $2400-$2700 would seem to be reasonable. Just my

Thats kind of what I was thinking. I may have to pass on the deal and go for a new 100B. The JVC GY-HD100U is looking pretty nice too. If I wait and get a new one it will be next year when I get it. This is a graduation gift from college from my parents to me. I figured since my major is Mass Communications that I will be using a camera a lot and having my own high quality camera would be better than signing one out from the school.

In most industries a used current model whatever goes for 30% less than a brand new one. The old model goes for 50% less. If there is a significant difference between the old model and the new, it is even less.

In some cases older models gain popularity and maintain their value.
With the 200 out it kind of evens all of this out to the usual case.

If you try really hard, and with the rebate you can probably get a B for around $2800, so I wouldn't pay more than $1600 for a 100A. But if I knew it was in such excellent condition, and I personally put most of the time on it, then I would give $2K.

the 100a is not to much different than the b for most uses the a is worth 2500 easy if it is in good shape with low hours

everyone wants somethin for nothin:kali:

Yeah and that was January, even more of a buyers market now.

I'd say $2200 or $2300 now would be a good price for a BRAND NEW 100A if some store had some back stock somehow (not likely)

I paid $2000 for my DVX which had 100 hours almost a year ago last July on Ebay and it came with an transferable after market warranty.

You could possibely argue that the HVX didn't hurt the street value of a used 100a that much since its a different market -- but DVX100B on the block (+ HVX to at least to some degree) = new lower market for 100A's.

Now all of that doesn't mean anything if you think the savings is substantial and it comes with a warranty.

I think its too high though for current market prices, but not saying you shouldn't do it if it feels right in terms of savings and reliability.

OR ...

You could foreward him this thread and say that you are very interested but the market for a DVX100A has changed substantially as you found out while doing some reasearch. As such you can give him $2300 to take it off his hands. If you are not in a hurry, tell him he can try to sell it for a month and if he has no luck that you will take it for $1900

You do know that one of the rules of this forum is "no personal attacks". When you come into a thread where people with nothing to gain are advising someone with an honest question that they think $3K is way to much for the camera, and you have little to contribute other than to call people names, well sure seems like a personal attack to me Bucko.
You've expressed your well thought out opinion TWICE. So please cool it or contribute something useful. :banned:

... of course when I eventually sell my DVX100A that I paid $2k for a year ago, I'll PM you and expect $2500 hundred for it. And if you ***** I'll call you a low baller.
