how much harddrive space?

Howdy everyone! So i have finally made the decision to purchase a macbook pro with final cut studio, but I also want to purchase an external harddrive. then the question is what are the harddrive requirements for raw footage vs the finish product (with the bells and whistles of the other programs I can use in studio)? I will be shooting on the DVX100B with the 24p settings and the regular DV. I just want an idea of how many hardrives I need to start up for work. thanx everyone:)

It really depends on what you are going to be doing... will the MBP be your sole editing station? How many minutes/hours will you be capturing per project? How long do you intend to store the material for... how many projects will you be working on at a time... etc.

You should get at least a 250 gig FWdrive... I've got a few of the LaCie 500g D2 drives in addition to my 4 250gig drives internally on my G4.

One thing I'd suggest is trying this.... buy a FW enclosure and some bare drives that you can swap in and out of the enclosure... keeping them in their static bags and stored away when not in use. You can find a bare 250 drive for under $100 and an enclosure for around $50.

Good luck,

I will be filming for now mostly live events like church services, local kid sports events so I would say at least about 2 hours worth of footage. but on the side I will be working on my short film projects and the last short film I worked on was 15 minutes minutes completed with about 3 hours worth of raw footage.

then as far as your suggestion, just some more questions. any particular kind of the removable drives that you recommend or that I should stay away from?
