HOw much for footage?

What type of project does he want to use it for? Does this guy have money? Is it a company, or just one person who wants to use it? Would you be getting credited for it?

Converted to DV? what format is it in now?

EDIT: Just watched the footage (the helicoptor stuff). This footage can be REALLY hard to get, thus making it more valuable. Keep that in mind.

I'd say it depends on what the project is. If it's a non-broadcast project, the price should be lower than if it's a broadcast project.

It all depends on what you want. Do you want to give it to him royalty free for a song like some stock houses do or do you want to get paid a decent amount for getting some footage that may be difficult to get?

First step if you don't want to go the RF route and give it to him for $35 is find out what it's going to be used for.

Other things to consider are if he wants exclusive rights to the clip and if so, for how long of a time to be exclusive and if only exclusive for a certain media or not. Exclusive would mean you charge more since you cant let anyone else use the clip.

He said it's to be used in addition to some "stuff he shot" and some stock footage from the manufacturer of the aircraft. It's a project for cable television about the helicopter and its use in Austin Tx with the rescue service. He's working on a program for the county. He asked me to ocnvert it to dvcam.

minimum charge

minimum charge

Well here is my take. I would charge at least $15 a sec and up to $25 for SD. Sometimes its easy to start high then go low then trying the reverse. Is your footage like amazing stuff that no one else has, then charge the higher amount. Do a minimum buy amount of 30 seconds. $450 bucks is cheap for a project that is state or county funded.
