How much do you write per day?

As many as 75, as little as 0. I probably average around 2-5 pages a day. 8-10 if I'm feeling inspired.

For me writing the script is either extremely easy or excruciatingly difficult, depending on how well I know my story.

For that reason I like to spend a lot of time writing and revising my outline. I like to be able to view the story as a whole. It is there that I see all of the holes in my story, and I fix them as best as possible. If parts of the story aren't working, I change them.

Once I am deep in the actual script, it is much harder for me to make changes. A single plot hole can derail me for days, as I rack my brain trying to fix it. It seems like a pointless and impossible task, and I need to take a step back and re-outline.

These days I have become much better at forcing myself to write scenes with which I am having trouble. In those cases the outline is my savior. I just need to write something, and I know I'll be able to revise it into something good. I write the barest skeleton of the scene, the basic actions, dialogue that says exactly what the characters need to say. Before I know it I have revised it into a decent scene.

hey

hey

8-10 pages depends on how hyped I am about the project

i cant imagine how many pages you guys have lying around on your hard drive if youre writing 8-10 pages a day.

how many screenplays have you guys written? do you write just to write or are you regularly compelled to tell the very story.

for me it always comes extremeley hit and miss. i rarely force myself to do anything more than sit and contemplate themes, characters, and at times the story. other days i will write an entire draft. creativity is such a hard thing to harness. i completely agree with karap.

does anyone else write their outlines in prose form?

Agreed. If you're writing nearly 10 pages a day (w/out rewrites) you've got to be pushing a script every two weeks. In which case, how many have you written?

Most of the time, yes. But I rarely outline the whole thing. What happens is more of just thinking of an outline, then suddenly the scene or a few pages comes together and I write those out right then and there. (Then I rewrite to oblivion)
