How much can DP's make?

It has to do with who you are working for,
take for instance, if I was hiring a DP for a shoot, i'd maybe be able to pay $100 a day.
(at the moment)
yet, if you're working on a corp sponsored shoot, I believe the pay is $1,200 per day; this is dicated by the fact that most commercial shoots have to be 100% union. (all things shot in studios have to be union)
the deal for guild DP's working under guild conditions; I think its a 9 hour minimum at $68~ an hour.
^a common figure

so, I guess its all up to you from there, how many jobs can you pull?

I think an average would be really hard to get, but I heard the guy DPing "Friends" made 300k a year.
who knows.

A freind of mine, who was the AC on "Superman Returns" and a Film school trained, aspiring Feature film DP, recently got 150$ a day for a 8 day shoot. she said it was low, but because it was a week +1 days, steady work it was accepetable.

She is Very talented, and i imagine she will be in the ACS soon enough.s

Spartacus,

"OT: You DPd/operated on the original Battlestar Galactica what makes you my hero of the week!"

Just to clarify, I shot a presentation/pilot piece to re-vive Battlestar Galactica produced by Richard Hatch back in 1998-99. (Dean Cundey replaced me for a day while I was out of town. He's friends with an effects guy who was helping out on the project. It was so cool to be replaced by an ASC member. He's a very nice man.) Nothing came of the project except Richard did get a part in the new series. It did get some good effects stuff on my reel, though.

Those numbers are good to hear, but I think in retrospect to all the shoots I've done, the most important numbers are 12 on/ 12 off.

I will give on my salary before I give on that one.

BTW Matt, your website has a nice aesthetic.
